The Ball Activated Sub is connected at the bottom of the tubing string, which is used for set hydraulic packer. After connecting the string and running into the well, drop a ball into tubing and apply tubing pressure to set the packer, continue rise the pressure to  cut off the shear pins in the plug, the ball seat is dropped, then the pressure is released.
